Gov. Beshear signs legislation aimed at building a better Kentucky

“House Bill 321 is bipartisan legislation that aims to foster transformational change in the West End of Louisville,” said Gov. Beshear. “Currently, 80 cents of every dollar of revenue developed in West Louisville ends up leaving the area. This legislation will create a $30 million initial investment in West Louisville, and community leaders who live here and know the people will decide how those funds are utilized.”

West End TIF a ‘wonderful tool’

Beshear also signed House Bill 321 into law at the ceremony, legislation which added language on the final day of the session to create a TIF district in West Louisville to spur economic investment.

The governor said the new initiative, dubbed the West End Opportunity Partnership, would “draw economic opportunities to the West End without forcing displacement, so the West End can maintain its strong sense of community and culture.”

Gov. Andy Beshear signed legislation Friday creating a financing plan to stimulate economic growth in western Louisville, calling it a good start to overcoming “decades of neglect.”

Rural and urban lawmakers banded together to pass the measure aimed at rejuvenating economically distressed neighborhoods in Kentucky’s largest city. Beshear’s signature came as he decided the fate of more bills passed at the end of this year’s legislative session.
